Aims and Scope

The Australian Journal of Otolaryngology (Aust J Otolaryngol; AJO; ISSN 2616-2792) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal, and the Official Journal of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, published by AME Publishing Company. The Australian Journal of Otolaryngology provides a forum for clinical researchers, basic scientists, clinicians, and others to publish original research and explore controversies in the medical and surgical treatment of patients with otolaryngologic disorders, including head & neck cancer and disease of the skull base. The Australian Journal of Otolaryngology is indexed and covered by the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI).

Information for Authors

AJO is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and it follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)'s guidelines and the ICMJE recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals.

Manuscripts submitted must be the original work of the author(s) and must not be published previously or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Submission Turnaround Time

  • Submission to First Editorial Decision: 1-3 weeks.
  • External peer review: 1-3 months.
  • Acceptance to Publication: 1-4 weeks. Original Articles are listed as priority.

Publication schedule

Australian Journal of Otolaryngology operates under a continuous publication model, which emphasizes the online version as the authoritative record and ensures peer-reviewed papers can be cited immediately. As continuous publication articles aren’t continuously paginated, the universal digital object identifier (DOI) should be used for citations and can be easily handled with the use of citation manager software. Check the ‘Latest Articles’ tab on the journal website for the latest published content. Articles are batched and available on the ‘Archive’ tab on the journal website.

Australian Journal of Otolaryngology is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal. All content of the journal is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial- NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). All articles published open access will be immediately and permanently free for all to read, download, copy, and distribute as defined by the applied license.

Free access and usage
Permitted third-party reuse is defined by the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. This license allows users to copy and distribute the article, provided:

  • this is not done for commercial purposes and further does not permit distribution of the Article if it is changed or edited in any way.
